Kia ora Welcome Bay School whanau and friends,
It is with great excitement that I join the team at Welcome Bay School as Principal this year. As a team we are expecting great things ahead for the Welcome Bay Learner as the qualities of our five birds are embraced:
Kereru - Have a heart - Kia manawanui (be kind and caring to one another in our school family)
Karearea (Falcon) - Show courage - Kia kaha (be bold in making good choices)
Toroa (Albatross) - Seek Adventure - Whaia te pai tawhiti (take risks in your learning)
Kea - Ask Questions - Tuku Patai (be hungry to learn and and inquire)
Matuku Moana (Heron) - Stand Proud - Kia maia (Be proud of who you are and where you come from, hold your head high and make choices you can be proud of)
These birds represent our endeavour to pursue excellence in life and learning, in the choices we make, our behaviour.
“Ma te huruhuru, Ka rere to manu - Adorn the bird with feathers so that it can fly!” This whakatauki represents a belief that our role is to help prepare children for the world that they will walk in beyond the gates of Welcome Bay School, giving them the feathers that will help them to fly in all that they do. This sits at the fore of our vision for the school.
As a school we acknowledge parents, caregivers and whanau and the most important role that you play in supporting our children to find success at school and beyond. We welcome your continued support of our school and staff, and the learners we are entrusted with, your tamariki.
We begin this year with high expectations of our learners, staff, and community. Flying means aiming for the sky, reaching high and expecting the best in all we do, our choices for learning and behaviour. We will have a fantastic year.
Naku Noa,
Nik House
Principal
